How to Achieve Outstanding Safeguarding

Safeguarding children and young people seemingly becomes more and more complex as the years pass by and a minefield when it comes to Ofsted inspection. Effective safeguarding relies on clear and easily understandable systems and procedures, consistently applied by all, and rigorously monitored by SLT. Your school’s culture is central to success because it forms the safe environment for children to develop and thrive and is essential to successful implementation of policy and procedures and excelling during inspection.

This training will bring you up to date with all the latest guidance to ensure you not only meet but go over and above the updated Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance published in September 2023 along with understanding the new filtering and monitoring requirements.

In this course colleagues will learn why school culture is so important and how to build the solid structures that will support staff and students, even when tough challenges come along. The course includes many practical downloadable resources and best practice from outstanding schools along with scenarios to help you understand what this looks like in practice.

This course will help you meet and exceed all statutory requirements for Safeguarding by providing a comprehensive and detailed look at the following:

  1. Discover the 12 key reasons schools are judged inadequate in safeguarding – and they are often things LAs and trusts have missed in their audits!
  2. Safeguarding statutory guidance and requirements – updated Sept 23 – understanding the law around safeguarding and key terminology in safeguarding and responsibilities of key members of staff and governors/trustees.
  3. Effective management of safeguarding – providing you with a range of practical strategies to keep your children safe and consideration of ways this applies in every phase of education.
  4. Ensuring a stringent safer recruitment.
  5. Managing safeguarding concerns and allegations.
  6. Ensuring best practice dealing with child-on-child sexual abuse and harassment.
  7. Role of the DSL – leading the culture, policy, systems and procedures by taking a proactive approach.
  8. Ofsted preparation – everything you need to excel during an Ofsted inspection of safeguarding
